Frequently Asked Questions
- What should I feed my new puppy?
- I feed " Professional Brand Puppy Food." The chicken and rice or chicken and barley variety. It is a healthy and wholesome puppy food with a good supply of vitamins and nutrients. Samples will come with your puppy. Their web site is professionalpetfood.com. You can find out from their site if this feed is sold in your area. If you choose another brand, just mix my brand half and half with your brand. This will avoid some possible stomach upset from changing his or her food too suddenly.
- What should I know about the day of arrival of my puppy?
- If your puppy is shipped via airplane, he or she will arrive in a very nice and secure puppy crate with a ready supply of food and water inside. He will be bedded in shredded paper. The paperwork ( AKC or APR papers, health guarantee, microchip info, vet inspection papers and health record) will be attached to the outside of the little crate. Call your airport to find out where you pick your puppy up at. It is usually the cargo division of the airport. Also make sure his flight is on time before you leave home.
- What kind of an immunization schedule should my puppy be on after I take him home?
- Please ask your vet that question. Immunization schedules vary some in different areas of the United States. Contact your vet about the appropriate shot and worming plan for your puppy.
- What works better, paper - training, outdoor training, wee - pad training or puppy litter box training?
- How you house train your puppy is a matter of personal preference. Just remember, if it is cold in your area, outdoor training will be a little difficult. Min pins do NOT like the cold. There are several books written on puppy care and most have an entire section dedicated to house training. Check your local puppy supply store or web site.
- How often should I feed my new puppy?
- I have all puppies on " full - feed." In other words, they have food and water available at all times. This may not be possible for you esp. if you already have another dog. Puppys may be fed at intervals throughout the day ( which may also help with house training). Just remember not to make them go for more than 4 or 5 hours without eating as very young puppys can become hypoglycemic ( low blood sugar ). If this happens, they will get very weak and may be uncoordinated and have difficulty walking. They can even die from this if it is VERY prolonged.
- What should I do if my puppy is reluctant to eat?
- Puppies don't often have problems in this area but all pups are different. Some have a harder time adjusting to new surroundings. Make sure you don't overtire your new puppy. Everyone is excited about the new addition and everyone wants to play with your new family member. Remember they are just babys. Allow plenty of time for sleep and offer frequent feedings. If you are really concerned, try wetting the food with some water. Also if you " hand - feed " them, this may help. Put several peices of food in your hand and offer it to him or her.
- What form of payment can I use?
- I accept paypal or money orders. If you prefer to mail me a money order, allow 10 days for delivery as the mail is very slow here. Even if you " overnight " the payment, it will take still 3 to 5 days to arrive. If you prefer to use paypal, I can send you a link to assure your payment gets to me.
- How soon do I need to send any payments?
- Once you pick out the puppy that you want, I just need a $200 deposit to hold him or her for you. Then the balance just needs to be paid before shipping. ( Remember the mail is slow here, so allow extra time for me to receive your balance. )
